The World of Nahum Stutchkoff (in Yiddish)/PM2 Amanda Miryem-Khaye Seigel

From humorous and heymish radio commercials to mesmerizing melodramas, explore the remarkable legacy of Yiddish linguist and WEVD radio personality Nahum Stutchkoff through staged readings of his many amazing 15-minute radio playlets. Class conducted entirely in Yiddish.

Wexology/PM2 Michael Wex

An exploration of how Yiddish looks at the world, with special (though not exclusive) emphasis on slang and idioms relating to the worlds of theatre and entertainment and how some of these have come into English. No knowledge of Yiddish required.

Daytsh af Tselokhes (Why Yiddish Isn't German)/AM1 Michael Wex

A look at why Yiddish, which often looks and sounds very much like German, was never really German at all. We'll see how a recently Christianized European language was put into the service of non-Christian ways of thought.

Introduction to Yiddish/AM1 Paula Teitelbaum

Intermediate Yiddish/AM1 Miriam Isaacs

We will use actual scenes from Yiddish plays to build fluency, pronunciation, vocabulary while having fun improvising roles. Practice expressing yourself in Yiddish, with a krekhts, while learning idioms and proverbs to use in context.

Yiddish for Singers/PM (see Yiddish Song)
