Yiddish Song KlezKamp Music

We have challenging and expansive offerings for everyone from singing-in-the-shower beginners to accomplished professionals.

Di Shererai/PM1 Josh Dolgin

If singing Yiddish songs is fun, then singing Yiddish songs in four part harmony should be four times the fun. It’s just simple arithmetic. In this workshop, we will sing through some amazing close-harmony arrangements from the vast repertoire of Yiddish pop, theatre, holocaust and folk songs written for mixed voices in the early 20th century. If you can read music, that makes life easier, but just having a good ear is a great start.

Vocal Master Class: Your Inner Yiddish Voice/AM1 Adrienne Cooper with Marilyn Lerner

Coaching for advanced students in polishing your performance of Yiddish song, working with varied accompaniments, finding an inner voice of beauty and authority.

Tam Gan Eydn/AM2 Adrienne Cooper with Marilyn Lerner

Yiddish folk repertoire offers a feast of songs about foods: those that comfort, those that remind us of long lost homes, those that celebrate the important occasions in life. A repertoire class for all.

Performing Yiddish Song (for Advanced Singers)/PM2 Joanne Borts with Josh Dolgin

An intensive master class for experienced singers seeking a deeper understanding of the songs they perform and how to communicate that to their audience. Participants should come with several memorized Yiddish songs. Fluency in Yiddish pronunciation is essential. All others are welcome to audit at the discretion of the instructors.

It's Better with a Band!: Singing with a Band/Playing for a Singer/AM2 Joanne Borts and Ken Maltz

Intensive workshop for advanced vocalists and ensemble instrumentalists, focusing on “how to play well with others” in Yiddish. Singers should bring lead sheets/charts for at least 5 pieces; musicians should read and be familiar with standard repertoire. An indispensable "How To" for adding a vocalist to your ensemble, speaking the same musical 'language' and keeping it real. For advanced singers, players and potential bandleaders
