General Information
KLEZKIDS HOURS OF
OPERATION
Morning session: 9:00am - 12:15pm
Afternoon session: 1:30pm - 4:45pm
Be sure to check in with our staff, giving them the names
of all adults authorized to pick up your child. No child will
be allowed to leave the play areas unless accompanied by a
parent or designated adult.
The KINDERNEST is a preschool program for children
ages 2-5. There are two morning teachers and two afternoon
teachers. Your involvement and participation is welcome and
encouraged. If you have a special talent you would like to
share (e.g. storytelling, music, creative dramatics, art,
etc.) we would be delighted to incorporate your ideas into
our program. Be prepared to spend a short amount of time in
the playroom each morning. Your children, especially young
ones, may need you to help them adjust to the new surroundings.
Please rely upon the advice of the staff to help you get them
settled. However, if your child is unable to stay, be sensitive
and do not force him or her. Parents are asked to volunteer
one period a day in the childrens program.
KLEZKIDS is a Jewish cultural arts program for kids
ages 6-11. There are various activities scheduled throughout
the day including drama, dance, music, Yiddish language, arts
activities, games, KlezKamp newspaper, and outdoor play. Parents
are asked to volunteer one period a day in the KlezKids program.
YOUTH ORCHESTRA (ages 8-17) for children who play
an instrument or are taking lessons and are able to read music.
BRING YOUR INSTRUMENT.
OOMCHICKS for children of all ages who want
to be part of a klezmer band. Bring percussion instruments,
recorders or other instruments.
MEALS Children eat all meals with their parents.
Healthy snacks will be provided during the day as well.
NIGHT HALL PATROL (Vakh) Babysitting
will be available for additional charge. Details will be provided
at KlezKamp.
WHAT TO BRING TO KAMP It is winter, so bring
appropriate outerwear: mantl (coat), hitl (hat),
hentshkes (gloves/mittens), shaln (scarves),
zokn (extra socks) and botn (boots).
WHAT TO WEAR It is advisable to dress in layers.
Bring clothing that can get messy during art activities: sweatshirts
and sweatpants, tee-shirts and jeans.
Please bring the following items for possible costumes: a
black tee shirt or turtleneck, black pants, a cap, a shawl
or scarves, and suspenders.
TOYS Any toys you bring to share are welcomed.
Suggested toys to bring are sports equipment, board games
and books. Younger children may want to bring a special toy
or blanket. Remember, toys will be shared and used by lots
of kids and possibly broken. All donations of toys and
art supplies are greatly appreciated and tax-deductible.
Please label all your childs possessions.
PARTICIPATION IN THE PROGRAM Parents are asked
to volunteer one period a day in the childrens program.
If you have children in both the nest and kids groups, we
suggest to volunteer two days in the nest and two days with
the kids. You are always welcome to join the activities with
the children. Much of the success of the program depends on
your involvement and interest in the childrens groups.
All parents should meet our KlezKids staff. There will be
an important meeting on Tuesday afternoon for this purpose;
full details will be provided along with registration materials.
You should not leave the hotel premises while your child
is in our care. In the event of an emergency, we need to be
able to contact you.
We have planned our program so your children will also share
in the excitement and creativity of KlezKamp. Age-appropriate
activities will be provided. Art projects and activities will
incorporate this years KlezKamp theme. Books about the
immigrant experience, Jewish and Yiddish stories will be on
hand to read and be read aloud. And there will be music. Lots
of it!
Please fill out the registration form
and send back to the Living Traditions office with your balance
payment. Make sure to indicate if your child(ren) will be
participating in any scheduled adult or youth courses (i.e.
Youth Orchestra [ages 8-17], Traditional Ensembles, Intro
to Yiddish, Yiddish Dance, Youth Theater Workshop [ages 12-17]).
