As an alternative to morning services on Saturday, we are pleased to offer a special session on Religion in the Catskills, led by Phil Brown. This session will explore the role of religion in the Catskills over the years, including its adaptability and the the current transformation of the Catskills into an Ultra-Orthodox and Hasidic enclave. It will also include discussion of holidays celebrated in the Catskills as well as a viewing of slides of Catskills shuls, some of which are now on the National Historical Register. This session will also include a reading of Phil’s short story “The Boss’ Visitor.”

In the afternoon there will be a performance by the Yiddish Puppet Theater class of Beyle Gottesman’s Khanike play, Alts tsulib a latke (“All Because of a Latke”).
